Spring Cleaning

It is spring and we are all home. With all the extra steps everyone one is taking about cleanliness, why not switch to natural solutions and decrease our chemical load? Here are a few ideas:

Natural Air Freshener:
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 5-6 drops of essential oil
Combine baking soda and essential oils in a jar. Cover it with a piece of fabric.  Just shake the jar to reactivate and add a few more drops of oil, when the scent starts to fade.
Recommended oils: lavender, lemon geranium

Wood Polish:
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 10  drops of essential oil
Add the ingredients to a glass spray bottle and shake well. Use a microfiber cloth to apply to your furniture.
Recommended oils: lemon, wild orange, arborvitae

Glass Cleaner:
  • 1 ½  cup white vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • 8-10  drops of citrus essential oil
Put all ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake well. Spray on glass surfaces.
Recommended oils: Lemon, lime, grapefruit, wild orange

All-Purpose Cleaner:
  • ¼  cup white vinegar
  • 1 ¾ water
  • 30  drops of essential oil
Put all ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake well.  Use on hard surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom and wipe dry.
Recommended oils: lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint, wild orange, grapefruit

I use the all-purpose cleaner every day in the kitchen. It also works great in the bathroom.  My other favorite is the wood polish. It gives the furniture a nice shine! All with no chemicals and with natural ingredients.
